Please take this illustrative journey of different examples of body art. Although tattoos are considered body art, they aren't covered here. All of this art is temporary, unless you use permanent ink! Ha!

Thank you for the visit and please forward this site to your friends so they can vote for themselves.

Body Art as a Form of Camouflage

Body art has been around for thousands of years.

The body has been used as a blank canvas for many different mediums. While tattooing is the most popular today, there are other ways to illustrate your body.

While body art can be pretty, you are basically camouflaging your body to make it whatever you want it to be. Paints can be used to disguise you so you can't be seen or if you are seen; your body is altered significantly so you are actually seeing the artwork, not the body.

Art has always been considered to the taste of the individual. While you may like some types, you may not like others.

I will try to cover several different types in this website. Please feel free to participate and let me know what you think. I may add your ideas if you request it..

Military Camouflage Style Face Paint

Camouflage dates back to the time of the Ninja in Japan but he use of camouflage makeup is more recent.

Many in history have used dirt, mud and other natural substances. Immersion in mud was used in the 1840s in India. Can it be assumed that this was the first known intentional mud bath?

Camo sticks began to be used in the military and later were issued by the military. I was in the US Army and remember being issued camo sticks to use. While we were trained to use them, I never considered camouflage as art.

Today, military camouflage has been used by models and in artwork. It definitely requires talent to apply and many are better than others.

Human Statue Body Art

Human statue body art has become very popular today.

It first started in the 1945 where there was a film entitled "Children of Paradise" that depicted a human statue. Today, there are festivals and events that have human statues and it has also been depicted in Science Fiction movies and venues.

Some use it as a means to make money as a street performer, or "busker."

The photos that I show below came from Australia where Human Statue Body Art is en vogue.

Henna

Mehndi with Henna

Mehndi is temporary tattooing with a reddish rust ink derived from the Henna plant.

It has been used as an art for over 6,000 years and can be traced back to Cleopatra and Nefertiti. It is very popular in culture today and is no longer strictly limited to culture. Since the late 1990s, Mehndi has become more popular in Western culture, although certain cultures still use it to celebrate events. You can get Henna artwork in any large city.

It is done with Henna powder, turned into paste and then applied to the skin. The bottoms of the feet and palms of hands are more susceptible to the longest-lasting art.

Body Painting

Human body painting can be dated back to the cave painters in France. Ochre and other colors were used on bodies, as well as in the cave art. Some of the art depicted body painting.

Body painting is ritualistic in some cultures but became an art form in the expressionism of the 1960s. Many were arrested for doing it because some of the most popular was on nudes and in public.

Body painting is now considered art and is seen in many venues. It can be considered fine art and also is at many festivals. I have shown some examples below in which the body is camouflaged in various ways.

Glitter Body Art

Glitter Body Art

Glitter body art has become more popular within the last ten years.

Although many associate glitter with younger generations, it is now becoming more popular in the adult arena.

Glitter is applied over glue or an adhesive substance applied to the skin. Without the adhesive, the glitter would not stick or stay. With the adhesive, the glitter can stay in place for several weeks.

Glitter body art can be done with different designs and medium including non toxic glitter-type paint, larger glitter pieces or along with other designs. Creativity provides no limit to the beauty of this artwork.
