We all want a child who is better than the other kids; one that can play an instrument better, sing better, gets better grades or is just better in what they do than what we did.

In the animal World, the strongest survive so this may be some form of internal instinct to have the best. That is probably why we love competition; to prove that we can be better.

Despite of that, we all want out kids to not have to experience some of the shortcomings that we did. However, these shortcomings make us who we are. I simply did not want my children to suffer any consequences, although we all know that children will try on their own anyway.
