Cranberry Harvesting and the Washington Cranberrian Fair

Updated on July 12, 2013

The Long Beach Washington Cranberrian Fair, Held Annually during the Second Week of October

Annually, the Long Beach, Washington community holds their annual Cranberrian Fair. This year, it will be October 12 to October 13.

However, this website is not only about the festival. It is also about the Long Beach cranberry farming and harvest.

I was recently in Long Beach, Washington and got to witness, first-hand, the cranberry farms and the harvesting procedure. This may not be exciting to many, but it is a very interesting process. Most of the photos on this site were taken by myself.

Walk with me through the cranberry farm and the harvesting process. I have also included many cranberry-related items throughout!

If you love cranberries, this is the best place to be.

Washington Cranberries

Growing up, I can always remember the cranberry sauce or cranberries at the kitchen table during the holidays, especially Thanksgiving.

Little did I know, that there were so many recipes and uses for cranberries.

I have been intrigued by the Ocean Spray commercials where the two men are standing in a bog. On a recent trip to Washington, I saw that there was a cranberry museum and tour, including the cranberry bogs. I jumped at the chance to visit and part of the photos on this website are of my visit.

Every October, the cranberry farmers and people of the Long Beach Washington Peninsula celebrate their annual Cranberrian Fair. It is not a huge festival but the area is not huge. If you ever get a chance to visit Washington, I highly recommend visiting and taking a tour at the Cranberry Museum. I learned that cranberries had been grown there since the 1880's.

It was also interesting to discover that the Ocean Spray company has a base there and that many of the berries that are picked, go to them to create fresh cranberry products.

Please take the tour with me below and make plans to visit the area.

Thank you for your visit!

I really like Ocean Spray products and now that I have actually visited some of the bogs where their berries originate, I like them even more. This cranberry juice is very nice and for people that have a low sugar tolerance, the diet version has become very popular.

These cranberries from the Northeast United States are really tasty. The sweetness of these is a little different than their Washington counterparts but they are still delicious. You can eat these right out of the bag for a tasty cranberry snack!

If you like your cranberries dried as a snack or as an additive to your cooking, you will love these. I like them in my cereal. They give that little sugar boost and I don't need any other sweeteners. This four pound batch will give you enough to last a long time, even if you use a lot during the holidays.
