Updated on February 18, 2013

CURRENT EARTHQUAKE UPDATES

This website provides news and information of specific weekly earthquake updates and is essential for those interested in tracking earthquakes, as well as those who are casually interested in what has been happening. Following the links below, track current quakes using the USGS Web site's Near Real Time Earthquake List to map locations on a world map.

Interested in Earthquakes?

I created this site to monitor earthquakes. I had no idea so many occurred daily and I doubt if others do either. If they interest you, this site will help you track them. Through the USGS, you can also report them if you feel them (I have done this a couple of times). Please enjoy and please stay safe!

LARGEST EARTHQUAKES LAST 7 DAYS

This link will provide earthquake updates for the past 7 days which includes the largest magnitude of 5 or above.

EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION LINK

Earthquake prediction is not very probable but Seismologists have attempted using different prediction devices. They have developed tools that try to predict region and time. Some are speculating that certain satellites may be able to assist in prediction by using hazards that exist. This is not an exact science and processes are still being investigated. Check out this link for further info.

DO EARTHQUAKES OCCUR VERY OFTEN? YES!!!!

HOW OFTEN DO EARTHQUAKES OCCUR?

There are always earthquakes occurring somewhere in the world. Millions of small (too small to be felt) earthquakes happen in a year, while major earthquakes happen, on average, about once in a year. The graph shows the relative frequency of various magnitude earthquakes (using the common Richter Magnitude scale - also shown) and the equivalent amount of high explosive required to produce the same amount of energy release as the earthquake (using the KG's of explosive scale also shown). Several earthquake updates from history and some natural and man-made explosions are shown for reference.

EARTHQUAKE SAFETY & PREVENTION FROM INJURY

Once you know the possibility of earthquakes occuring in your area using the earthquake updates in this website, learn safety tips on how to prepare for earthquakes or what to do during an earthquake!

SONIC BOOM INSTEAD OF EARTHQUAKE?

Recent investigations have shown that the Earthquake you thought you felt, may not be an earthquake but a sonic boom!

Please let me know what you think of this website on earthquake updates?
