The Scarlet Ibis - The True Red Bird
The Reddest Bird in the World
The Scarlet Ibis is considered the reddest bird in the world.
Although its habitat is primarily in South America, you can see them in almost all zoos in every country.
They are plentiful although they are a protected species.
I hope you enjoy these colorful photos that I have collected from various sources and please participate in the quizzes and poll below.
Please also leave your mark in the Guestbook.
Thanks for visiting!
"It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree."
From "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst
All about the Scarlet Ibis
The Scarlet Ibis lives primarily in South America in the Llanas region, between Venezuela and Colombia.
I am not sure about your travel plans, but it is not the safest place to visit and I don't ever see myself visiting.
Once in a while errant Scarlet Ibis will end up in other countries and further North. A short story by James Hurst, "The Scarlet Ibis," was about an errant Scarlet Ibis.
The Scarlet Ibis is not shy with humans and has been known to attack them. You will see a video of one of these encounters below.
The male and the female are both bright red, unlike other species where the female is usually pale in comparison. The young Scarlet Ibis has little or no color, probably to help protect it from predators.
Please enjoy these photos and the website.
Happy birding!
