An Elk Encounter - Estes Park Colorado
Sometimes the Animals Come to You
A trip to Colorado is never complete without some animal sightings. However, we didn't expect the animals to come to us.
On a cold day, we parked the car and saw some elk in the distance and take some long-distance photos. While walking up a hill towards a golf course, we could see the elk in the distance and then, the elk saw us! We were curious but the elk were more curious and started to move in our direction. As we stood there, the elk moved in and with the last photo and video, you will see how close they really got!
This trip reminded me of how it used to be. If you are not hunting animals, they are very calm and will sometimes surprise you.
This website not only shows some amazing photos of elk and other wildlife, it has some quotes and quizzes to make it a little fun.
Enjoy yourself and I will try to narrate a little along the way!
All photos and videos were captured by myself, Terry Villars.
Videos taken were loaded to Youtube.
Elk in the Distance
You can see the elk in the distance. The bull elk is up there. When we were walking along, we had to be careful because sometimes, even from a distance, they can feel threatened and have been known to charge people.

We learned to be patient observers like the owl. We learned cleverness from the crow, and courage from the jay, who will attack an owl ten times its size to drive it off its territory. But above all of them ranked the chickadee because of its indomitable spirit.

I love the land of winding waters more then all the rest of the world. A man who would not love his father's grave is worse then a wild animal.

Just Standing There, We Were Spotted and They Started Moving in!
We must protect the forests for our children, grandchildren and children yet to be born. We must protect the forests for those who can't speak for themselves such as the birds, animals, fish and trees.

You Can Tell by This Photo How Close They Were Getting!
She Says, "I Think These Humans are Interesting, I Want to Take a Closer Look!"
If you talk to the animals they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them you will not know them and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears, one destroys.

She Came So Close We Could Touch Her - We remained perfectly still, well, other than taking a few photos
A very great vision is needed and the man who has it must follow it as the eagle seeks the deepest blue of the sky.

We're In the News!
Coming home from a road trip through the Rockies, we pulled over to see a mature bull elk who was bugling during the rut. We parked along the road and approached an elk volunteer who explained the behavior of that elk. In the meantime, we were interviewed by the local newspaper and actually made it into the newspaper the next day. This was about two minutes of fame for me so I have eight left.

Elk Bugling - Estes Park, Colorado
What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
