With Earth day on the horizon, why not buy a water clock and do you part in preserving our valuable natural resources. The environment and future generations will be glad you did!

What is a Water Clock?

A water clock is not a new invention. In fact, the first water clock was known to have been invented in in the 16th Century BC.

The premise of a water clock is that the perpetual motion of the water over time, enables the user to determine the actual time.

One of the first water clocks was the bowl-shaped outflow. Time would elapse as the bowl emptied it's contents. The Romans made a more complicated version that actually had a way to read time. The Roman Engineers were knows as some of the best and it was the Romans who invented fresh water by building the Aqueduct, one of the original 7 wonders of the ancient world. They were not unaware of the power of water.

In more recent years, the water clock has been adapted to modern standards. With one filling of the clock, it will fun for 6 months. Since I live in Arizona, I fill mine more often than that as water seems to evaporate quicker in drier climates.

The Bedol water clocks have a different mechanism. When you fill the clock with water, ions in the water convert to electricity, which powers the clock. They have contained the clocks into really cool looking cases.

I am a fan of Time and Time Pieces

"He's got all the time in the world." David Philby, The Time Machine - 1960

Things I have always loved are clocks, watches and timepieces.

I can't personally wear a watch but I love to hear clocks ticking and all of the designs that have been made. I can't imagine having to look at a cell phone instead of a watch.

I guess my fascination of clocks began when I was small and I saw the movie, "The Time Machine." This was a book written by H.G. Wells and I remember George winding them up in an early scene.

Today, I collect watches and clocks and I have a new love with the water clock. I have one of these and they run perfectly, probably better than a regular clock that uses batteries.

Bedol, the main manufacturer of these, makes them in various colors and designs. All of these are very aesthetic and you will be sure to find a design you like. These clocks have alarms in them and some have other features.

Browse through these cool clocks and I hope you find something that you enjoy. If not, at least you may have learned something.
