Tips for Taking Black and White Photographs at a Winter Wedding
If you are considering either having or attending a Winter Wedding, why not try to take at least some black and white photos?
Weddings are a very special occasion and can be planned around seasons or locations. To capture the wedding, you can use color but I seem to tend to appreciate the art and beauty of a black and white photo for these occasions.
There are numerous tips that can be used when taking black and white photographs at a Winter Wedding and I have tried to capture some of them in this website. In addition, there are numerous resources that show other things to consider in black and white photography and tips for Winter Weddings.

I had never heard of Winter Weddings until recently. It doesn't mean they don't exist, it just means that I never knew people would get married in the Winter.
Spring is probably the most common season for weddings although I am sure that Summer is not far behind. Winter always seemed a little bleak to me but a Winter Wedding is probably a way to warm things up a little and put something there to look forward to.
I grew up in Ohio. An outdoor Winter Wedding was not anything that anyone did. We had a lot of snow and there were no leaves on the trees.
Taking color photographs in the Winter, a season that is not especially colorful, is something that most didn't do either. Now, I do remember the occasional Robin, Cardinal or Blue Jay photo, taken against a snowy backdrop. There weren't many other colors, especially greens and yellows. Well, there was yellow snow but it isn't something that you would consider taking photos of.
A black and white Winter Wedding seems natural. The Winter season is mostly black and white and these photos take away the bleakness of the season. Mix in the merriment of a wedding with a Winter backdrop, and it all seems to fall into place.
I don't usually take black and white photos with my camera, I take color photos and then edit with Adobe Photoshop. Most versions will work in turning color into black and white and you can also use other filters with the program. I also really enjoy black and white photos with just a splash of colorization added.
I wouldn't take Winter Wedding photos any other way. What is your preference?

To select an outdoor scenic wedding venue, find a public or private location closest to most of the guests. More people will attend that way.
The more scenic the location, the more beautiful ceremony. This will guarantee fantastic black and white Winter Wedding photographs!

Backdrops are very important for Winter Weddings. You can select backdrops in the area that the wedding is concurring or just make stops along the way.
You can also schedule specific photo shoots prior to the wedding. Don't be scared, be a storm chaser!

It is better to get there and know you will have a Winter scene than to either have no snow, or have to wait for Uncle George to use his tractor to clean out the barnyard.

A bride in Winter can be beautiful. However, you have to take the weather, at least partially into consideration.
If it is too cold, you need to make sure that you have a place to warm up. Your adrenaline may be running heavily, but that adrenaline won't keep you from getting frostbite!

If you have ice on the ground, also use some salt. It is white and will mask any imperfections in the ground left by melted snow. All of this will give you some very realistic photo impressions that appear cold, but are very original and look like the wedding party is nice and toasty.

The white of the dress and the silver in the hair make some good black and white contrasts.

Since it will be cold, you can plan and set up even before people arrive. You can then warm up and head out during the ceremony.
